KCC Begins Strategic Planning Process

Officials with Klamath Community College have begun the process of strategic planning, with the goal of having five-year-plan once the process is completed. The plan will provide a focused direction for goals, objectives and outcomes regarding enrollment and physical growth, finances, recruitment and retention, academic program offerings, college image and more.

The process began with surveys and forums of KCC faculty, staff, administration and Board of Education, but it is not just those directly connected to KCC that will be afforded the opportunity to provide input into the strategic planning process. The college is also seeking input from external constituencies, including its K-12 educational partners, Kingsley Field, the local business and economic development communities, and the general public.

On May 9, 2013, KCC invited administrators from both the Klamath County and Klamath Falls City School Districts, as well as staff from all of the high schools within the districts, to campus for a strategic planning session. The meeting resulted in KCC officials receiving input regarding how the college might be able to better serve its K-12 partners going forward

“This is going to be a comprehensive plan, so the process needs to be comprehensive as well,” said Tom Nejely, a faculty member at KCC who, along with the President’s Office, is spearheading the strategic planning process. “We have just begun to reach out into the community, but we certainly want to give everyone who has input or ideas for KCC the opportunity to share those ideas with us.”

The timeline for the strategic planning process calls for a plan to be finalized in late 2013, with implementation beginning early next year. “This is not just a document that will sit on a shelf, look good, and impress our accreditors,” said KCC President Dr. Roberto Gutierrez. “This will be a practical plan that will provide direction and drive our decision making for years to come.”
Opportunities for the public to take part in the process will be announced as they are scheduled.
