Klamath Community College is pleased to announce its 14th annual commencement ceremony. A near-record number of KCC graduates will be taking part in the ceremony this year, with 96 students scheduled to participate—just one shy of the all-time record. The ceremony, which is scheduled for 7:00 p.m., Friday, June 10, will take place in the parking lot in front of Building 3 on campus at KCC.
The outdoor ceremony is a change from previous years when commencement was held indoors at KCC, but the move was made necessary due to the high number of graduates taking part in this year’s event. According to Julie Murray-Jensen, Dean for Student Services, KCC has made a point of emphasis regarding making sure students see their education through to completion, and it is paying dividends. “We’re absolutely thrilled with the number of graduates this year and overjoyed to be celebrating this momentous occasion with them, their friends and family, and really the entire community,” she said.
Of 94 members of the graduating class who took part in a survey, 42 said they now plan to attend a 4-year university, with the majority of those matriculating at Oregon Institute of Technology. Others will be attending universities throughout Oregon as well as in Arizona, California, Montana and Utah, something that is a particular source of pride for the entire Klamath Community College community. “It’s always a pleasure to have another year of graduates moving on,” said KCC President Gerald Hamilton. “Whether this marks the culmination of their academic pursuits or they will be furthering their education here or elsewhere, we’re very proud of all our graduates,” he continued. A handful of students have indicated that they have already found work in their field of study, despite still having courses to complete, while others will soon be seeking employment.
Friends and family of the graduates, as well as the general public are invited to attend the event and a reception to follow. The reception, which will be held in Building 6, will feature live entertainment from local jazz duo Mood Swing, appetizers and cake to celebrate the graduates’ achievements.
