Nearly 350 high school students from 13 high schools across Southern Oregon and Northern California converged on Klamath Community College recently for the 6th Annual Business Skills Academy, a daylong event filled with competitions and workshops that allows high school students from around the region to hone their skills in a number of categories.

Most of the attendees are members of one of two business clubs active in area high schools: Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) and DECA, both of which had their own series of competitions.

“This is an outstanding event for area high school students,” said Linda Davenport, Department Chair of Business & Management at KCC. “It really gives them a chance to showcase their skills while learning from and networking with their peers at neighboring schools.”

The event has grown so popular over the years that KCC has been forced to limit the number of high schools that can attend. “We had additional high schools that wanted to be here, but we simply didn’t have the room,” said Ann Strunk, KCC’s High School Outreach Coordinator. “Hopefully we will be able to continue to grow and accommodate all who want to take part in coming years.”

The event was sponsored by the Phi Beta Lambda Club at KCC, with assistance from ASKCC and KCC Completers.
