COMMERCIAL TRUCK DRIVER TRAINING COURSE (CDL) INFORMATION:
  1. The class is 10 credits.
  2. It is financial aid eligible under the Diesel Program
  3. Classes For Spring Term (two sections offered - select the one that best fits your schedule):
  • DST290.01: MTuWThF 5:30-9:30pm, April 7th – June 6, 2014
                  OR
  • DST290.02: SaSu 8:00am-5:00pm, April 5th – June 15, 2014
Prerequisites:
  1. Must be at least 18 years of age. (You have to be 21 to drive across State lines, 18 years old to drive in State.)
  2. Must have a reasonable driving record from the past 5 years. The standards below reflect current insurance requirements to be competitively employed in the trucking industry.
    1. No more than 3 moving violation citations in the past 3 years.
    2. No major “at fault” accidents in the past 5 years, and no more than one “at fault” accident in the past 12 months, or more than 2 in the past 5 years.
    3. No DUI, reckless, or negligent violations within the past 5 years.
    4. No “Failure to Appears” on Motor Vehicle Record.
    5. No Felonies within the past 7 years.
Steps required prior to registration:
  1. Complete a KCC Admission form.
  2. Apply for Financial Aid.
  3. Complete the online CDL Application, or print a PDF Application, complete and return to KCC Admissions Office.
  4. Print the Drug Screening Agreement, sign and date, and return to KCC Admissions Office.
  5. Print Attendance and Testing Agreement, sign and date, and return to KCC Admissions Office.
  6. Obtain a copy of your driving record ($3 DMV fee or $1.50 DMV fee if no record found) for the past five years from the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) in the State where you were licensed. (If you held licenses in more than one state in the past five years, a driving record from each state is required.)
  7. Return the driving record(s), and other applicable paperwork to Dennis Bonner, KCC Admissions Director, Building 3, Room 301; if unavailable, leave documents for Dennis at Student Services Help Desk in Lobby of Building 3.
  8. Pay KCC Cashier (Building 3, lobby) the $100 application fee (note: fee is nonrefundable upon completion of Physical Exam and Drug Screening).
  9. Notify KCC Admissions in person, via email or phone (541-880-2336) that you have paid your application fee.
  10. KCC Admissions will email you (or make alternative arrangements as needed) a Permission form that will allow you to go to Basin Immediate Care for a drug screening and Department of Transportation (DOT) physical. A DOT physical and drug screen needs to be completed by the first day of class through KCC’s Agent, Basin Immediate Care. If you are taking prescription medication you must get a doctor’s release before participating in the yard portion of the training.
  11. KCC Admissions will contact you to verify receipt of all required application documents, and to confirm you are scheduled for Placement Testing and Orientation (Click here for schedule). Note:  If you are a new KCC student, you must attend New Student Orientation and schedule a placement test. Contact Dennis Bonner with questions.
  12. Your application will be reviewed. If the application is complete and without disqualifying information, you will be notified by phone or email regarding your next steps. 
An online application is available. The fee and other paperwork must still be returned to the Admissions Office.

Tuition and Fees: Total tuition and DMV fees are approximately $4,246 as shown below. All are subject to change without notification. Questions may be directed to 541-880-2336.
