SUMMARY
Ensures maximum efficient system availability, which fulfills the campus wide computing demand, by pro actively managing specific computing resources. Integrate system resources with application and network requirements to meet or exceed system availability and performance.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Responsible for overall system performance: review and address overall compatibility issues; specify facilities requirements and ensure that requirements are met; coordinate installation schedules, and negotiate maintenance agreements.

Install hardware and software in cooperation with other staff and the user community.

Ensure that the system is license compliant.

Plan and coordinate system downtime including timely notification of users.

Review purchase agreements and assist in vendor negotiations.

Perform capacity analysis and system planning to ensure end user needs are satisfied.

Provide timely and effective end user support to staff, including computer use training.

Provide technical advice about options to other planners and management.

Provides Business Office with fixed asset information as computer equipment is purchased, relocated or retired.

Responsible for implementing security procedures: monitor user activity; identify network vulnerabilities; determine user authorizations and system privileges; perform user setups.

Participate in the development, testing and maintenance of backup and disaster recovery plan as related to computer system and information system.

Build strong relationships with hardware/software vendor representatives for partnering in troubleshooting, new equipment acquisitions and problem solving.

QUALIFICATIONS

A thorough understanding of and proficiency in Windows XP, Windows 2003 Server, and Linux.
An understanding of appropriate network protocols (TCP/IP. VOIP).
Team player, ability to work effectively with others especially in crisis and/or high pressure situations.
Pro active and innovative approach and attitude; demonstrated flexibility.
Ability to adapt quickly to new situations.
Technical aptitude; able and willing to explore and learn new technologies and apply them to the advantage of the college.
Ability to work professionally and effectively with staff, end users and vendors.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university; and two years recent experience in system administration; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
