Associate of Arts Oregon Transfer
Overview
It is recommended that students interested in Elementary Education complete the Associates of Arts Oregon Transfer degree, with approved electives in education. This degree is transferable to all Oregon State colleges and universities.
Teachers-elementary, Middle school, secondary and Special Education licensure programs
The Associates of Arts Oregon Transfer (AA-OT) degree is the preferred degree for students to complete lower division (freshman and sophomore) Bachelor of Arts degree requirements at KCC. In addition, students would need to meet with the education advisor to determine what appropriate education electives to take for the AAOT degree.
Klamath Community College has articulated agreements to meet education requirements with Concordia University in their Elementary Education bachelors degree program.
In addition Klamath Community College also has articulated agreements with OIT for the Applied Psychology program and Southern Oregon University for their Master's of Teaching programs. See Jamie Jennings the education advisor for more specific information.

Occupation Description
Schoolteachers work in public and private schools. They instruct children in various grades and subjects based on their licensure or endorsement.
Specific Work Activities
- Individual, small group and class instruction
- Use technology in the classroom
- Record, assess, and grade student progress
- Develop daily lessons, assign homework and grade assignments
- Meet with parents to discuss student progress or problems
- Supervise activities on playgrounds and in cafeterias.
- Develop rules for safety and classroom behavior
- Collaborate with administrators, paraprofessionals and other multidisciplinary professionals
Working Conditions
Usually work indoors in classrooms. However, they sometimes teach outdoors or supervise playgrounds
Physical demands
- Sit when working at desks or computers
- Stand when teaching
- Walk or run when supervising students on the playground
Hours/Travel
Usually work nine months during the year and have summers off. Some teach summer school. May work part time or full time.

Median annual earnings of kindergarten, middle, and secondary school teachers ranged from $39,810 to $44,340.
Job opportunities for teachers over the next 10 years will vary from good to excellent, depending on the locality, grade level, and subject taught.
Preparation
- Have at least a bachelor's degree

- Complete a student teacher internship
