Associate of Science Criminal Justice

Overview
The Criminal Justice Specialty helps prepare students for careers in Law Enforcement and related fields. Additionally the program is a solid foundation for further study in Criminal Justice as well as the social sciences. Students in this specialty complete a Law Enforcement focused core of classes including: Arrest Search and Seizure, Evidence, Criminal Investigation, Interviewing and Interrogation and Police Report Writing.

Careers in Law Enforcement are expected to grow. As in most criminal justice fields applicants for Law Enforcement positions must pass a rigorous background investigation, be in good physical health and good physical shape.

Job offerings in the Klamath Basin
While growth in Law Enforcement and related careers are expected to grow nationwide - opportunities within the Klamath Basin will be more limited. Locally there are few openings and little turnover in Law Enforcement positions. Furthermore, preference is given to individuals who have prior Law Enforcement experience and certification.

Students who are seriously considering careers in Law Enforcement are encouraged to become Reserve Officers with KFPD or the Sheriff's Office.

Advancement
Both the City and County pay a merit increase for officers who possess an Associates Degree.
