| Ability to Benefit: | A threshold of student competence which must be documented in order
for a student to enroll in collegiate coursework. |

| Academic Year: | Instruction equivalent to three terms of approximately 11 weeks,
which may include examination days. |

| Credit, Acceptance of: | KCC accepts credits from all regionally accredited institutions of
higher learning. Application of credit towards a degree is guided by the
policy set forth in the Academic Policy Handbook located in the
Learning Resources Center. |

| Credit Courses: | Courses in which formal assessment is imbedded in the work, and
assessment of the student’s performance is integral to the assignment
of a grade. The credit courses offered at KCC are acceptable in all KCC
programs as prerequisite or elective credits. |

| Credit, Unit of: | Usually represents three hours of time each week [1 hour in class, 2
hours of outside preparation] for one term. This time may be assigned
to work in classroom or laboratory or to outside preparation. The
number of lectures, recitations, laboratory, studio or other periods
per week for any course may be found in the KCC Schedule of Classes.
The normal amount of scheduled time for a non-laboratory academic
class is 50 minutes per week for each credit hour. Laboratory and
activity courses usually require between two to three hours of class
time per week for each hour of credit. |

| Degree: | A recognition of the successful completion of a two-year program of
study which contains three main parts: a general education core,
a major or concentration, and electives. KCC provides four degrees:
the Associate of Arts-Oregon Transfer, the Associate of Science, the
Associate of General Studies, and the Associate of Applied Science.
Unless approved by the Dean for Learning Services and the Board of
Education, all degree requirements will be held to 90 credits. |

| Exit Examination: | Required for completion of a certificate or degree and prior to
graduation. All students will complete an exit examination to assess
their skills and knowledge as well as evaluate the effectiveness of the
college’s program of study. |

| Full-Time Enrollment: | Student is registered for 12 or more credit hours per term. |
