Advanced Placement ~ College Level Examination Program

Advanced Placement
High school students taking Advanced Placement or articulated courses are eligible to receive a number of credits toward a degree while still in high school. See a Student Services Representative for more information.

College Level Examination Program [CLEP]
The College Entrance Examination Board has instituted the CLEP program, a set of nationally standardized examinations which will provide 3 to 12 credits in individual subjects; the general examinations fulfill some sequence requirements for the Associate Degree. More information is available in the Student Services office.

Credit by Exam
A maximum of 45 credits toward a degree and 24 credits toward a certificate program may be earned by: CLEP examination, ACT Subject Matter Examinations, Advanced Placement tests [score of 3, 4 or 5 required], military schooling [ACE Guide approved], or KCC departmental waiver based on knowledge or training. Credit may be granted only after completing 12 or more credit hours of regular coursework at KCC.

Attendance
All students are accountable for attending class[es] in which they are officially enrolled. Students who do not attend during the first week of the term and fail to contact the instructor may be administratively dropped from the class. Note that some summer classes are of a shorter duration than those of the regular term and have different deadlines for withdrawing. Instructors will announce an attendance policy. It is the students’ responsibility to obtain and meet attendance requirements of each instructor. In cases of late enrollment, the student may have to contact the instructor directly for this information. Only students who have officially registered and enrolled may attend classes. Dependents or other guests are not allowed in the classroom. Students that are on a waiting list may attend the wait listed classes during the first week of the term. Starting the second week of the term the students’ name must appear on the class roster. Students who are not officially registered for the class by this time may no longer attend.
