Student Participation in Institutional Governance
As members of the college community, students are free to express their views on issues of institutional
policy and matters of general interest to the student body. Students may participate in formulating and
applying policies and procedures affecting academic and student affairs through student leadership as
well as College councils and committees.
Student Code of Responsible Behavior
Enrollment at KCC carries with it certain obligations and responsibilities regarding standards of
conduct which are compatible with the mission and functions of the College as an educational institution
and the pursuit of educational goals. In general, policies and administrative regulations governing the
College are the same as those governing society at large. Students are expected to maintain reasonable
standards of behavior requested by College instructors, staff, and administrators. The Code is covered
in detail in the Student Handbook.
Drug and Alcohol Policy
KCC is dedicated to providing a learning environment that is safe and free of the detrimental
influences of drug and alcohol abuse. The abuse of drugs and alcohol by individuals constitutes a serious
threat to their physical and mental well-being and may significantly impair performance. Although the
College recognizes drug and alcohol dependencies as illnesses and major health problems, drug and/or
alcohol abuse at KCC is considered unacceptable because it negatively affects the productivity, safety,
and security of the College.
In order to foster a safe, healthful, and secure campus environment, it is KCC’s intent and obligation to
provide appropriate drug and alcohol related policies, procedures, and educational resources. In addition,
when necessary, the College will impose sanctions.
Unlawful manufacture, distribution, dispensing, possession or use of an intoxicating or controlled substance
[other than drugs prescribed by a physician] on College premises is prohibited. Violations of this policy
will result in disciplinary action, up to and including termination, expulsion from classes, disqualification
from use of campus facilities and referral to appropriate law enforcement agencies for prosecution.
The College’s premises are defined as any building, room, outdoor space, or vehicle that is owned, rented,
leased or used by the College. Students who do not abide by College drug and alcohol policies may be subject
to disciplinary sanctions. For more information on KCC’s alcohol and drug policies, please consult the Student Handbook.
