The Business and Management – Business Office Systems Technology AAS degree is offered to students seeking employment as professional administrative assistants.

Candidates for the Business and Management degree must satisfactorily complete all the requirements of the degree including a minimum of 90 credits, 40 of which are in the General Education Component. The General Education requirement allows the flexibility to continue professional development at a later date, by applying the basic skills gained to more in-depth study.

A one-year certificate in Business Office Systems Technology is offered. This program may serve as a fast track leading to entry-level employment or a ladder to the AAS in Business and Management – Business Office Systems Technology.

Core Outcomes for the Business Office Systems Technology program include:
Development of proficiency in composing and producing business documents, following professional business procedures, and coordinating activities found in a complex office environment. This program emphasizes the practical application of office software to create professional business documents and presentations.

This program focuses on the fundamental areas of business communications, principles of business law and management, word processing and data entry, office machine operation, office procedures, public relations, accounting, filing systems and records management, and report preparation. This program offers extensive opportunities for hands-on skill development, including a substantial work experience component in partnership with a local business or organization.

Successful pursuit of this degree requires students to possess collegiate skills in reading, communication, computation, and critical thinking. To acquire that competency, it is highly recommended that students complete precollegiate courses to gain these skills in the first terms of their program.

It is imperative that students interested in business and management occupations work closely with their Academic Advisor to create a plan that addresses their specific career interests. Advanced training may be required for certain occupations, and transfer degrees may be more appropriate for students intending to further their education beyond KCC.

Course of Study
The first year of the AAS degree offers technical specialty coursework and completion of prerequisites. The second year covers a broad range of skills, including those necessary for diversification and upward mobility within the occupational area.
