Money Matters

Scholarships are considered to be “gift aid” because there is no requirement to repay or to work in exchange for the funds.

Ron and Myrtle Mason Scholarship
Eligibility Requirements:
  • Students must be at least ¼ Native American heritage;
  • Students must be an incoming freshman or returning sophomore student [not a transfer student];
  • Determined on basis of scholastic achievement, community service and tribal service;
  • Preference will be given to Ron and Myrtle Mason relatives [documented].
Available Amounts:
  • Variable
Masami Foods Scholarship
Eligibility Requirements:
  • Students must demonstrate financial need through a written statement;
  • Students must be a resident of Klamath or Lake County , OR, or a resident of Modoc or Siskiyou County, CA;
  • Not limited to employees or dependents of Masami Foods, Inc..

Federal Loan Programs
Loans are considered to be “self help” and require repayment. There are several different types of loan programs available to students and these include the Federal Stafford Subsidized Loan, Federal Stafford Unsubsidized Loan, and the Federal PLUS loan.

Stafford Subsidized Loan
  • The Subsidized Stafford Loan is a fixed interest loan awarded on financial need. If students qualify, the federal government PAYS the interest on the students’ loans while they are in school, during a six-month grace period after they leave school or drop below half-time enrollment, and during any period of authorized deferment [postponement of payment];
  • The anticipated interest rate for 2008-2009 is fixed at 6.8%.
Annual Loan Limits:
  • Students may borrow up to $3,500 if they are a first-year, undergraduate student;
  • Students may borrow up to $4,500 if they are a second-year, undergraduate student.
