Student Services

Advising
KCC provides advising services to assist students with career plans and academic choices. Student Services Representatives are available to both current and prospective students. All are encouraged to meet with a Student Services Representative or an Academic Advisor prior to registering for classes. For a listing of faculty advisors, see page 26.

KCC wants students to get the best start possible and to succeed in college. Student Services Representatives can help students identify individual goals and establish the best path leading to their accomplishment.

Placement Testing [COMPASS]
The College provides Placement testing in reading, writing, and math skills for beginning students, since all college degrees and certificates require some coursework in these areas. New students taking reading, writing, or mathematics classes, or courses requiring prerequisite skills in those areas, must take the placement examt. The results are used to determine the beginning level of writing and math in which students are most likely to succeed and to determine the ability to benefit from instruction.

Tests are given in the Learning Resources Center by appointment only. Call 541-880- 2206 to schedule an appointment. Disability-related accommodations for placement tests are considered on a case-by-case basis; contact the Student Services Office at 541-882-3521.

Orientation
New Student Orientation is an introduction to KCC and is scheduled prior to each term, usually on the Thursday before the first day of classes. Orientation includes an overview of college resources and student support services. All first-time credit students planning to enroll in a degree, certificate, or diploma program, and all who are accumulating a significant number of credits toward a transfer degree, are strongly encouraged to attend an Orientation session prior to the start of their first term. Contact a Student Services Representative for Orientation dates and times.

Program Planning
Student Services Representatives can explain the wide range of program options and help students select an appropriate course of study. Please see a Student Services Representative about class scheduling, or to ask questions.
