College Preparatory

Advanced Placement
High school students taking Advanced Placement or articulated courses are eligible to receive a number of credits toward a degree while still in high school. See a Student Services Representative for more information.

College Level Examination Program [CLEP]
The College Entrance Examination Board has instituted the CLEP program, a set of nationally standardized examinations which will provide 3 to 12 credits in individual subjects; the general examinations fulfill some sequence requirements for the Associate degree. More information is available in the Student Services Office.

Credit by Exam
A maximum of 45 credits toward a degree and 24 credits toward a certificate program may be earned by: CLEP examination, ACT Subject Matter Examinations, Advanced Placement tests [score of 3, 4 or 5 required], military schooling [ACE Guide approved], or KCC departmental waiver based on knowledge or training. Credit may be granted only after a student has completed 12 or more credit hours of regular coursework at KCC.

Attendance
Students are accountable for attending class[es] in which they are officially enrolled. If a student does not attend during the first week of the term and they fail to contact the instructor, they may be administratively dropped from the class. Note that some summer classes are of a shorter duration than those of the regular term and have different deadlines for withdrawing.

Instructors will announce an attendance policy. It is the responsibility of the student to obtain and meet attendance requirements of each instructor. In cases of late enrollment, students may have to contact the instructor directly for this information.

Only students who have officially registered and enrolled may attend classes. Dependents or other guests are not allowed in the classroom with you. If a student is on a waiting list, they may attend the wait-listed class during the first week of the Term. Starting the second week of the term, the student’s name must appear as enrolled on the class roster, or they must have a class schedule which shows they are registered for the class. If a student is not officially registered for the class by this time, they may no longer attend.
