Repeating a Course
KCC Policy allows students to repeat a course once to improve a grade. Repeats
beyond the first one are allowed, will be recorded on the students transcript, will
be included in their GPA, but will not change the student’s grade on the transcript.
Students who repeat a course and want the original grade changed on their record
must see a Student Services Representative to request that the original grade be
listed as replaced, and their GPA recalculated using the higher grade. The original
grade will then be removed from the calculation.
Withdrawing from a Course
When students register for classes they are considered to be in attendance. If
they discontinue attending without filing an official withdrawal form, they will
receive a failing grade or a grade which represents the course accomplishments. To
withdraw from a course, students must complete an official Withdrawal form and
file it with a Student Services Representative by the withdraw date date published
in the term calendar. Generally, withdrawals are processed in person. Withdrawals
are reflected on official transcripts; therefore, adherence to correct procedures will
help protect academic records. To ensure an official withdrawal from a class[es],
contact the Student Services Office for verification. To receive a refund, students
must initiate the withdrawal procedure during the first week of the term, except
for classes fewer than ten weeks in length.
Instructor-initiated Student Drop
If students have not attended class or contacted the instructor during the first
week of the term, the instructor may drop them from class on or before Friday
of the first week of the class. Appeals to the drop policy must be directed to the
Student Services Office. For more information on the Appeals Process, please see
the Student Handbook.
Academic Probation
Students at KCC are expected to make satisfactory progress toward their
educational goals. Satisfactory progress means fulfilling the College requirement
of maintaining a 2.00 [“C”] cumulative grade point average, which is necessary
to receive a degree or certificate. Academic probation is a warning that students
are not making satisfactory progress. Degree seeking students whose term GPA
falls between 2.0 will be notified by mail that they have been placed on academic
probation. Students receiving Financial Aid or Veterans’ Aid through KCC must
meet the satisfactory progress requirements outlined in the Financial Aid or
Veterans’ Aid literature.
