The Human Services Protection Options AAS degree
is offered to students seeking employment in criminal
justice and related careers. The degree offers emphasis
areas in Criminal Justice or Corrections.
To earn the AAS Human Services degree, students must
satisfactorily complete all the requirements of the degree
including a minimum of 90 credits, 40 of which are in
the General Education Component.
One-year certificates are offered in Criminal Justice and
Corrections. The certificate program may serve as a fast
track leading to entry-level employment, or a ladder to
the AAS in Human Services.
Core outcomes of the AAS in Protection are:
Exposure to a broad curriculum of Criminal Justice
Studies which stress both practical knowledge and theoretical
foundations. Students will be academically qualified
for positions requiring a two-year degree in fields
such as law enforcement, corrections, and related fields.
This degree will prepare students for transfer to a fouryear
college or university for further study in Criminal
Justice or a related field.
Successful pursuit of this degree requires students to
possess collegiate skills in reading, communication,
computation, and critical thinking. Therefore, students
are encouraged to complete math, writing, and other
general education courses at the beginning of their
program.
Course of Study
The first year of the AAS degree program offers technical
specialty coursework and completion of prerequisites.
The second year covers a broad range of skills, including
those necessary for diversification and upward mobility
within the occupational area.
