During the fall term, KCC became a chapter of the National Society of Leadership and Success joining the University of Oregon, Western Oregon University and Lane Community College as well as other campus chapters in Oregon.
The NSLS has over 400 chapters on campuses nationwide and has over 350,000 student members. The mission of the Society is to build leaders who make a better world. The Society offers a step by step leadership program creating a community on campus where students help one another to succeed.

When students join the KCC chapter of the Society they participate in activities to improve communication skills and self-confidence, to give them experience in facilitating and influencing peer groups and to provide access to scholarships, awards and a national job bank. Since the Society is a leadership honor society students also receive recognition for participation at graduation.

KCC’s Student Life Coordinator, Kristy English states the Society brings so much to students on our campus. Through this program they participate in motivational speaker broadcasts with celebrities such as Dan Harris from ABC New Nightline, Debbi Fields, founder of Mrs. Fields Cookies and Arianna Huffington founder, President and Editor-In-Chief of the Huffington Post.

Students will work on projects in teams to develop their skills so they can become leaders who have a positive impact in our community. As they look beyond KCC, the Society helps members build resumes, find jobs, receive personnel success coaching, and build professional networks.  All of these activities will lead to enhanced student engagement and retention. Already, KCC has 62 members of the Society chapter on our campus, with a goal to grow membership in the coming terms.
