Klamath Community College, the Oregon Employment Department and WorkSource partner up to bring about the KCC Career Center and help bring students closer to prospective employers.
KCC and the Oregon Employment Department has reached a groundbreaking agreement to share data on where and how our students are employed.  In a first for the state of Oregon, KCC will now receive employment data on students who have graduated or attended KCC.  Thus, allowing the college to keep track of students who obtain employment in the professions and jobs they have studied and trained for at KCC, or if they have found different employment.  Also the data will provide the college the ability to keep track of the salaries of KCC students and graduates.  Overall, this provides KCC the necessary data to observe our students on-going success.  KCC will use this data as part of the assessment of the effectiveness of our programs.  Along with input from advisory committees for programs, this data will be used to establish how viable KCC’s programs are in placing and retaining our students in the workforce.  Further, the data will be used to assist in revising and upgrading programs to keep students competitive in the workforce.  Finally, the data will be used to identify new needs to be filled in the workforce.  KCC is the higher education institution in Oregon to access and use this data from the Oregon Employment Department.
As another important part of this partnership to improve employment and career services at KCC. Students can now access employment and career services from WorkSource of Oregon on campus in a new KCC Career Center located on the first floor of building 6.  Staff from WorkSource will use this center to provide students information on job and career opportunities and to meet with students for more in-depth one-on-one service in job finding.  WorkSource will also assist businesses who are seeking trained workers to find KCC students who are well trained and job ready.  This customized job placement brings employers and faculty together through WorkSource services to identify qualified and work ready student candidates for jobs. Additionally, WorkSource in cooperation with KCC’s Student Life Center will offer career exploration services to students as they seek the next step after completing a degree or certificate at KCC, or for those who desire to begin a career while still in school.
The Career Center is open Monday through Thursdays from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, all are welcome to come by.
