Klamath Community College will be able to offer professional development to those currently working in early childhood education thanks in part to an Early Learning Development Grant.
Klamath Community College is pleased to announce that it recently received an Early Learning Development Grant to help facilitate professional development opportunities for those working in early childhood education in the Klamath Basin.

“This is a great opportunity to provide educators with additional services that will help them be more effective in the classroom,” said Jamie Jennings, KCC’s education program faculty lead.

The classes, which will be made available free of charge, will be offered to anyone currently teaching at the preschool and kindergarten levels, as well as paraprofessionals. In addition to Klamath Community College, a consortium including Southern Oregon University and other community colleges throughout the state will be sharing curriculum for the program.

As part of the grant, Southern Oregon University will also be offering “Training the Trainers” courses in Klamath Falls for faculty members currently teaching classes in early childhood education. “This is a comprehensive program that will have a huge positive impact on early childhood education throughout the Klamath Basin,” Jennings said.

While the $43,000 grant covers the cost of tuition for attendees, KCC is funding the development and instruction costs for the program. “This program aligns with the Klamath Promise and will have a great impact on early childhood education in our community,” said KCC President Dr. Roberto Gutierrez. “Raising the level and quality of teaching early on will give preschool and kindergarten students a better early educational experience, which we believe will pay dividends down the road.”

Qualified applicants will be eligible for up to 18 credit hours of professional development free of charge, but class size is limited. For more information, or to apply, those interested can contact Jamie Jennings directly at 541-880-2228 or jennings@klamathcc.edu.
