Klamath Community College has entered into a partnership in education with the 144th Fighter Wing based in Fresno, CA, adding to the list of two Fighter Wings here in Oregon where KCC already provides classes. The purpose of this training is to provide general education classes that are part of the Airmen’s required professional development pathway. This newest partnership with the base in Fresno is a sign of how the program continues to expand.
The courses are specifically intended to cover the requirements needed for degree programs with the Community College of the Air Force. The partnership will allow airmen to complete the classes they need to finish their CCAF degree allowing for potential future promotion.
"We have experience with Kingsley Field [with the 173rd Fighter Wing] and the 142nd Fighter Wing in Portland. This agreement is a small token of our appreciation for what our Airmen do for our country”, said Dr. Roberto Gutierrez, KCC President.
Classes will begin on base in Fresno starting in the fall of 2015. Students from the 144th Fighter Wing have already been taking online courses with KCC for the last year via KCC’s distance education program. This partnership will now allow KCC to teach classes in person for those Airmen who prefer a more personal classroom experience.
The distance education classes provided to Airmen across the country have already seen enrollment of Airmen/students from North Carolina and Kentucky all the way to California and Washington. Airmen deployed from Oregon Air Guard units to various places around the world have completed classes from locations such as Afghanistan, Romania and Qatar.
Additionally, KCC will offer Airmen stationed anywhere in the United States the opportunity to pursue a Bachelor’s degree that is directly tied to CCAF completion and an articulation agreement that the college signed with Southern Oregon University recently. Airmen who successfully complete their CCAF degree will be able to dual enroll with KCC and SOU in order to transfer their CCAF credits towards an Associate’s degree with KCC and ultimately a Bachelor’s degree at SOU. The general education classes for the CCAF and lower division transfer courses – both of which are available through KCC – and the upper division coursework with SOU can all be completed as distance education classes. The “Base to Bachelors” program will also be made available to interested Airmen beginning in the fall.
