KLAMATH FALLS – Klamath Community College will host a recruitment event later this month for seasonal wildland firefighting positions. The Oregon Department of Forestry Klamath and Lake District event is Feb. 16 from noon to 7 p.m. on campus in Building 4.
Representatives from the Oregon Department of Forestry will be joined by Klamath County Fire District #1 to explain job requirements and expectations, and to provide informational materials and answer questions about employment opportunities in the world of firefighting.
The following ODF positions are open at this time:
- Wildland Fire Suppression Specialist Entry – No experience necessary: $14.21 – $19.76 per hour
- Wildland Fire Suppression Specialist – Two years wildland firefighting experience required: $16.55 – $23.78 per hour
- Forest Officer – Four years wildland firefighting experience required: $21.66 – $31.55 per hour
“Successful applicants will be provided training for the position that does not require experience,” said KCC Fire Science Instructor Sam Franconi.
The event will also highlight KCC’s new Emergency Response Operations degree and certification program and the agencies’ collaborative effort to support the Klamath Basin Public Safety Training Center at KCC. The center will provide local and regional training opportunities for wildland fire, structure fire, corrections and EMT.
The successful applicant must be 18 years of age at time of hire and have a valid driver’s license. Applicants will be required to pass the Work Capacity Test (Pack Test) which is a three-mile walk in 45 minutes with a 45-pound pack.
