Miguel was caught between a rock and a hard place, having attended college classes, but still lacking a high school diploma.

He was ready to transfer to a four-year institution when he realized he had to get his GED, high school equivalency diploma.

“It was a time-sensitive moment. I was in the process of transferring, but needed the diploma,” he said.

K-CET and STEP programs on the Klamath Community College campus came together to help him with funds and coaching to work through his GED requirements.

He would study the individual disciplines, English, Math, etc., and then take the tests.

“The program really helped with my self-esteem. I honestly didn’t know if I would pass, but the teachers kept encouraging me and as I progressed, I knew that I was getting somewhere,” he said.

Miguel recommends the program to anyone who is lacking a GED.

“To anybody who feels like this is really hard, it is not. The people at K-CET heIp you overcome those barriers.”

Miguel is studying business management and marketing and hopes to run is own business some day.
