KCC Food Pantry

Addressing food insecurities for our students:

ASKCC (your student government) and the Office of Student Life have partnered to create an on-campus food pantry to help provide support for our students in need. If you would like to request food, please review the details below and complete the form. Food packages can be picked up on Tuesdays and Fridays from 9 am to 3 pm during academic terms and Fridays 10 am to 3 pm during breaks.

The KCC Food Pantry is available only to students registered for classes in the current term. You must have your student ID card for verification when picking up your food package. Students may utilize the food pantry no more than twice per month, so please plan ahead for which weeks would work best for you. Food packages will also include information on other resources available within our community.

Mission:

It is the mission of the Klamath Community College Food Pantry to provide assistance, information, and resources to all KCC students with the intent to help them feed and provide for themselves and their families.

Purpose and Goals:

The purpose of the Klamath Community College Food Pantry is to relieve hunger. We will do so by:

  • Promoting and supporting the development of KCC students by removing the burden of hunger
  • Creating and maintaining an environment where all feel welcomed and respected regardless of their socio-economic status
  • Exhibiting empathy and compassion to those we serve
  • Mobilizing leaders within KCC and the community to assist those in need
  • Providing access to grocery and hygiene products to meet the needs of those we serve
  • Hosting monthly or bi-monthly workshops on nutrition and wellness, couponing, meal making tips, and other local resources that address food insecurity.

Logistics:

In order to respect and maintain the privacy and dignity of our students, the food pantry operation will be run in a way that minimizes any exposure for those utilizing the resource. Students will be able to sign up online (via a SurveyMonkey form), where they will have options of food packages from which to choose (family package, adults package, or vegetarian package), as well as the opportunity to indicate any specific hygiene products they may need. The form will also ask if they have any food allergies of which we should be made aware.

The deadline to submit a request form each week will be Thursday at noon. As forms are received, the Student Life team will assemble bags to be ready for pick up on Friday afternoons between 1 pm and 5 pm.

Pick up will actually be done as a drive-through service set up outside the Commons east entrance. Each pre-assembled bag will be tagged with a student ID number only, in order to maintain privacy for students. During the Friday afternoon pick-up times, the bags will be arranged near the entrance, and students may drive up, give the staff their student ID for verification, and receive their bag. They can then drive away without having to carry groceries around campus for any period of time.

Those in need can pick up a bag of grocery or hygiene products twice per month during these times. Bags and boxes will be obtained through donation for use by Food Pantry patrons, who will be encouraged to contribute bags and boxes for reuse as well.

In addition to food and hygiene products, some or all of the following items will be included in bags given to student participants:
  • Info on local community resources
  • Easy and healthy recipes
  • Nutrition information
  • Promotions on upcoming workshops and special events related to health and wellness
