You will then follow the instructions listed on the following page. The processing time for documentation to be processed is two to three weeks.
What happens after your FAFSA is Submitted?
Applying for alternative student loans
The lender will use credit history and other factors to determine a student's eligibility. Students are often required to obtain a cosigner. The Financial Aid Office can only certify private loans up to the cost of attendance minus other types of aid. This means that the private loan may not be certified for the amount the lender approves.
Accepting Aid
Students may accept or decline aid that has been offered by indicating so on the "Accept Awards" screen. Once you have accepted or declined your aid, the Financial Aid Office will work to process your financial aid funds for the next eligible disbursement.
Before accepting any financial aid funds, it is your responsibility to read through all terms and conditions and other important information on the KCC financial aid webpage. Additional information which must be read can be found in the Financial Aid Information Booklet.
If you are accepting loan funds, you must also complete the Loan Entrance Counseling course and a master promissory note (MPN) before any loan funds can be disbursed.
Once you have accepted loan funds and you have enrolled in classes, your loan entrance counseling and MPN will be marked as "received" on your MyKCC account within 14 business days, pending completion.
Receiving Aid
Once enrolled in classes, accepted aid (excluding work-study which must be earned and scholarships from other agencies for which funds have not been received) will usually be disbursed on the third Tuesday of the term and credited to the student's billing account. Financial aid is automatically used to pay for student charges such as tuition, fees, and book charges. Any accepted funds left over after a student's bill has been paid in full will prompt a financial aid refund. Beginning at 1:30 pm on the third Tuesday of the term, financial aid refund checks will be available for pick up.
If your refund check is not picked up by the end of the term, it will be mailed to the address on file with the Business Office.
For additional information regarding disbursement, please read disbursement information.
